KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), in collaboration with the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) and the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), will be organising the ‘International Seminar on Humanity and Climate Change Crisis: A Multidimensional Perspective’, from 29 to 30 July 2025 at the Kompleks Islam Kuching.

According to a statement, this two-day seminar will bring together policymakers, scientists, scholars, and thought leaders to deliberate on the human dimensions of climate change — an often overlooked but crucial aspect in addressing global environmental challenges.

“The event is expected to host up to 1,000 participants from various sectors including academia, government agencies, non-governmental agencies (NGOs), and the general public.

“The seminar aims to deepen understanding of climate change through the lens of human-environment interaction, Islamic ethical teachings, and strategies promoting equity, inclusion, and resilience,” it said on Tuesday.

Keynote and thematic speakers include Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and Mufti of Sarawak, Datu Kipli Yassin.

Additionally, the seminar will also feature high-level dialogues on ethics with particular emphasis on Islamic perspectives alongside discussions on green technology and environmental governance.

A book launch will also showcase new publications from IKIM and MIS, complemented by exhibitions highlighting sustainable initiatives.

Further information on registration and participation will be announced soon via the official websites and social media channels of MIS, IKIM, and MEESty.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held to discuss the organisation of the seminar, involving MIS President, Datuk Misnu Taha, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religous Department (JAIS), Mual Suaud, IKIM Deputy Director-General, Dr. Mohd. Zaidi Ismail, and officers from MEESty, MIS, and IKIM. -UKASnews
