Kampung Punang Set To Undergo Major Transformation

LAWAS: Kampung Punang is set to experience a major transformation through various strategic development projects.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that Kampung Punang's position is a factor in several interesting projects involving the economic, industrial and tourism sectors.

"Kampung Punang has a strategic position and will also be involved in the construction of a new airport between Punang and Awat-Awat as well as the Coastal Road project which will connect directly to the airport.

"In addition, the construction of an industrial area or industrial estate on Pulau Sari, as well as a jetty as a deep-sea port are also planned and expected to be implemented this year.

"We have plans to facilitate the private sector to be involved in this project for tourism areas such as the construction of golf courses and resorts and we are making efforts to attract the private sector to be involved together," he said.

He said this when speaking at the Qurban and Meat Distribution Programme organised by Lawas Islamic Charitable Trust Board (LAKHIL) at the Darul Iman Mosque, Kampung Punang on Saturday.

The Bukit Sari Assemblyman added that the new Darul Iman Mosque building is now more than 90 per cent complete and several changes in the design are being considered.

At the same time, he also announced that the riverbank and breakwater construction project in the village area will be implemented by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA).

Therefore, he called on the residents of Kampung Punang to take advantage of the existing opportunities to benefit themselves and their families from the changes that will be implemented.

The programme held at the mosque compound also celebrated Aidiladha with the local community and saw 198 recipients receive the distribution of sacrificial meat.

He also announced a contribution of RM10,000 to the Kampung Punang Hadrah Group who presented a special performance during the event.

Also present to enliven the event were Lawas Member of Parliament, Dato Henry Sum Agong; Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Awangku Jinal Abedin Pengiran Jawa, Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) Director, Dato Ubaidillah Abdul Latif, Lawas District Officer, Ladin Atok and community leaders including Temenggong Rosli Majid and Penghulu Marli Ambi. -UKASnews
