Sarawak Governor & Premier Attend Aidiladha Thanksgiving Ceremony

KUCHING: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, graciously attended the Aidiladha Thanksgiving Ceremony hosted by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya, on Saturday.

The event was further graced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Sri Fadillah Yusof, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato' Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Also in attendance were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr. Juanda Jaya, Sarawak Islamic Council President, Datuk Misnu Taha along with senior government officials and other distinguished guests.

The ceremony began with the ritual slaughtering of sacrificial animals, witnessed by the honoured guests, accompanied by the resonant chants of the takbir, which added a deeply spiritual atmosphere to the occasion.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, and Dato' Sri Fadillah then took part in the symbolic activity of preparing the sacrificial meat, reflecting the ceremony’s spirit of gratitude and community.

The event continued with the distribution of sacrificial meat to 30 recipients, comprising new Muslim converts and underprivileged individuals from around Kuching. The distribution was officiated by Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi.

In total, 100 recipients benefited from the meat distribution held during the day’s programme.

Earlier in the morning, the dignitaries joined over 3,000 congregants in performing the Aidiladha Sunnah prayers, led by Sarawak’s Grand Imam, Dato' Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
