SARIKEI: The construction of the Sarikei-Tanjung Manis Road and the Batang Rajang Bridge has significantly boosted the local economy in Sarikei and Meradong while also drawing more visitors to the area.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato' Sri Huang Tiong Sii said the road which was officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg last May has boosted overall local development.

He said the people of Sarikei can now benefit from these infrastructures as a result of the Sarawak Premier's inclusive leadership which emphasises rural development to ensure progress is in step with urban growth.

In this regard, the Sarikei Member of Parliament expressed his deepest appreciation to Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari for his commitment to advancing development in Sarikei.

He said this in his speech during the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Flag Raising Ceremony in conjunction with the 66th Anniversary Celebration of SUPP Sarikei Branch at the N.45 Repok Service Centre on Wednesday.

The Repok Assemblyman also extended his gratitude to party members for their continuous support and trust since he first took office as their elected representative.

The event began with the arrival of party members and Dato’ Sri Huang, followed by the party anthem and the flag-raising ceremony.

It continued with a speech by Dato’ Sri Huang, a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the party’s 66th anniversary, and ended with a spirited triple chant of ‘Sa’ati’ in a show of enthusiasm and unity. -UKASnews
