KUCHING: Loyalty to the original struggle and the ability to adapt to changing times have been the pillars of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP)’s resilience for the past 66 years, stressed Sarawak Deputy Premier and SUPP President, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
Speaking at the flag-raising ceremony in conjunction with SUPP’s 66th anniversary at the SUPP Headquarters, Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui on Wednesday, he expressed his appreciation to all party members throughout Sarawak who simultaneously celebrated at their respective branches.
“I would like to thank all our party members across all branches – from small towns to cities – who also organised the SUPP flag-raising ceremony today.
"It is not just a celebration of the party's 66th anniversary, but an affirmation of the original vision and mission of our establishment, which is 'Sarawak First' since 1959," he said.
According to him, SUPP is not only the first multi-racial party in Sarawak, but also one of the main leaders in the development of this state since before the formation of Malaysia.
"We are celebrating not only the age, but the continuation of the original struggle of the party's founders. That struggle is still relevant – to make Sarawak a priority.
"Today we renew our commitment to the Sarawak First principle," he stressed.
He also expressed his appreciation to the party leaders and members from generation to generation who have remained loyal despite various challenges and political trials.
In the meantime, he called for unity within the party and among the GPS components to be maintained.
Also present at the ceremony were Sarawak Transport Minister and SUPP Deputy President Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Batu Kitang Assemblyman and SUPP Deputy Secretary-General Dato Lo Khere Chiang, Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, and Kuching South City Council Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng. - UKASnews
