PAKAN: Longhouse communities have been urged to preserve unity and avoid division in the face of challenges.
Pakan Assemblyman, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said the Gawai celebration should serve as a powerful symbol of unity, bringing together people of all races, religions and generations.
Speaking at the 'Bejalai Nemuai Ngabang Gawai Dayak 2025' programme, here on Sunday, he stressed that the festive season should be used to strengthen bonds within the community and maintain social harmony and stability.
“Any issues or misunderstandings should be resolved wisely through discussions with community leaders and longhouse chiefs,” he advised.
Tan Sri William also called on rural communities to embrace Gawai as a platform to reinforce their sense of togetherness, particularly in areas like Pakan where community ties remain strong.
On the same day, he visited the residents of Rumah Munan in Rantau Sabong, followed by a visit to Rumah Anding in Entegelam, continuing the cherished tradition of 'ngabang ' or house-visiting during the Gawai festivity. -UKASnews
