KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is set to implement a comprehensive and forward-looking policy framework aimed at strengthening the energy sector and ensuring sustainable development.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said four key policies will be introduced to shape the future of Sarawak’s energy landscape.

These are the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint, the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy, and the Sarawak Energy Efficiency Roadmap.

According to him, the implementation of these policies is expected to unlock investment opportunities worth between RM350 billion and RM430 billion while creating approximately 44,000 new high-value energy sector jobs for Sarawakians.

“These job opportunities will be created through the emergence of new industries stemming from the implementation of these policies.

“It will not only benefit the local workforce but also stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak,” he said during his winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.

The Sarawak Premier added that this initiative also has the potential to attract both domestic and foreign direct investments and enhance Sarawak’s competitiveness at the regional and international levels, in line with its aspiration to become a green energy leader in Southeast Asia. -UKASnews
