KUCHING: The implementation of Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government has significantly impacted the daily lives of Sarawakians while continuing to drive digital transformation in rural areas.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said a total of RM464.5 million has been successfully disbursed to 758,483 recipients via the e-wallet platform, S Pay Global.

“This initiative not only helps reduce the cost of living, but also stimulates household spending and supports the economic growth of communities, particularly small traders and retail entrepreneurs,” he said during his winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that the implementation of SKAS using S Pay Global has also had a positive impact on digital literacy, especially among rural communities.

He noted that village committees, youth associations, and women’s bureaus are now actively using digital platforms to manage activities, disseminate information, and promote local products online.

“The use of S Pay Global, which was once concentrated in urban areas, is now expanding into rural areas. This not only improves the efficiency and visibility of local organisations, but also encourages their participation in the digital economy,” he said.

He stated that this effort aligns with the Sarawak Government’s vision of not only developing a digitally literate society, but also one that is ready to adapt to rapid technological changes across the Land of the Hornbills. -UKASnews
