KUCHING: A Code of Ethics has been introduced in the Sarawak Government Procurement to ensure transparency in the procurement process.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stressed that procurement remains one of the most critical components of public sector governance and is particularly vulnerable to moral lapses including conflicts of interest, excessive influence, and non-transparent decision-making.
“This Code is developed to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability among all stakeholders involved in the procurement process, including the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS), Sarawak Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), and bidders or suppliers.
“It embodies the Government's firm commitment to the principles of good governance aimed at preventing malpractice and misconduct among Government officials in procurement activities,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah also shared that the development of the Sarawak Government’s e-Procurement system is currently in progress.
According to him, Stage 1 which covers development of e- Direct Purchase module has been completed.
Meanwhile, Stage 2 covers development of e-Quotation which is currently on-going, with Stage 3 covering development of e-Tender module scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2025. -UKASnews
