Sarawak Records RM4.07 Billion In Tourism Receipts As Of April 2025

KUCHING: Sarawak is on track to achieve its tourism receipt target of RM12.73 billion this year, having recorded RM4.07 billion as of April 2025.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the figure corresponds to a total of 1.6 million tourist arrivals from January to April this year.

“Sarawak’s tourism sector is experiencing tremendous growth, driven by attractive tourism products and successful promotional efforts.

“My ministry remains committed to realising the vision of positioning Sarawak as a premier tourism destination, as well as a stage to showcase its unique arts, culture and heritage,” he said.

He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Tuesday.

On tourist arrivals, Dato Sri Abdul Karim revealed that the main source markets for Sarawak tourism continue to be dominated by countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with Brunei Darussalam remains as the top contributor in 2024, accounting for 39.1 per cent or 1,891,314 visitors.

“This is followed by Indonesia with 653,883 visitors or 13.5 per cent, while Singapore and the Philippines contributed 1.2 per cent (59,793) and 1 per cent (46,853) respectively.

“Meanwhile, China remains a significant contributor with 1.5 per cent or 74,721 visitors,” he added.

Previously, Sarawak’s tourism receipts for 2024 reached RM12.45 billion, showing an increase compared to RM9.99 billion recorded in 2023.

In terms of visitor arrivals, a total of 4.83 million people visited Sarawak in 2024, marking a 23 per cent increase compared to the previous year. -UKASnews
