KUCHING: Two infrastructure packages under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project have been successfully completed.
Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this milestone signifies an important advancement in efforts to develop an environmentally friendly public transport system powered by hydrogen.
According to him, the two completed packages involved the advanced ground foundation works for the Rembus Depot, and the construction of a three-kilometre stretch essential for the Proof of Concept (POC) trial run in Samarahan.
“This is an important achievement in the early phase of KUTS implementation and reflects the state government’s commitment to green and sustainable transport transformation,” he said.
He spoke during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Monday.
In total, six infrastructure packages have been awarded under the project.
Four more packages, the Rembus Depot Infrastructure Package, Blue Line Package 1, Blue Line Package 2, and Red Line Package, are currently in progress.
Meanwhile, the Green Line Package is still in the initial preparation stage for the tender process.
As of April 2025, actual progress for the KUTS Phase 1 stands at 29.89 per cent compared to the targeted 33.86 per cent. -UKASnews
