KUCHING: Sarawakian students are expected to continue to benefit from the Free Laptop and Book Voucher initiative by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak.
Its Minister, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn shared that as of the end of last year, 9,581 laptops and 3,015 book vouchers have been successfully distributed to eligible students in all institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.
“This year, we expect more students will benefit from this scheme, therefore we will be enhancing our promotional efforts and engagement activities to ensure that more members of the public are aware of the educational assistance available to students,” he said.
He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Monday.
According to Dato Sri Roland Sagah, this assistance is open to all Sarawakians, studying full- time at any public or private higher learning institution recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) across Malaysia.
“It is meant for students from families with a per capita income of RM1,500 or below per month.
“For the free laptop, applicants must also be in their first year of study, to help them start their studies with the right tools. All applicants must be registered in the My-Yayasan system,” he explained.
He further stressed full commitment from his ministry to improving access to education for all, and expressed confidence that this initiative will continue to have a positive and lasting impact in Sarawak. -UKASnews
