KUCHING: In support of the Greening Sarawak Campaign led by the Sarawak Forest Department (FDS), a tree planting programme was successfully held this morning at the Sabal Forest Reserve, in collaboration with the Japan Malaysia Association (JMA) and sponsored by Kinoshita Group through JMA.
The initiative saw the planting of 700 native tree saplings comprised of Kapur Bukit and Bintangor Laut species, contributing to ongoing efforts to restore degraded forest areas and enhance biodiversity in Sarawak.
The event brought together over 100 participants, including staff from the Sarawak Forest Department, volunteers from JMA, teachers and students from SMK Balai Ringin, lecturers and students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and members of the local community.
Among those present were JMA Sarawak Coordinator Kazue Sakai, UNIMAS Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Effendi Wasli, SMK Balai Ringin representative Michael Pulo and Sarawak Forest Department representative Wan Abdul Khaliq.
This programme reflects a strong spirit of collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, and international partners.
It is also part of Sarawak’s broader commitment under the Greening Sarawak Campaign—a significant step toward building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.-UKASnews
