PAKAN: Members of the Madani Community in the Pakan District have been urged to take a more proactive role in disseminating key government policies to rural communities, particularly residents of longhouses.
Advisor in the Office of the Premier of Sarawak (Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development) and Pakan Assemblyman, Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom, said such efforts are vital to ensure government information reaches the grassroots, thereby fostering a more informed and resilient society.
“The role of the Madani Community is not limited to addressing national concerns such as online scams, gambling, drugs and social issues, but also includes relaying various state government policies and initiatives that have a direct impact on the people,” he said when officiating the Jiwa@Komuniti Madani*Programme organised by the Pakan District Information Department at Rumah Janang, Sungai Wong on Wednesday.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between the Madani Community, longhouse chiefs, and government agencies in implementing effective community development programmes.
Earlier, the programme commenced with a special briefing by the Information Department on the growing threat of online scams, including preventive measures that communities can adopt.
“Online scams have become increasingly alarming. Members of the Madani Community must be at the frontline in raising awareness among villagers about the deceptive tactics used by scammers,” he emphasised.
The Jiwa@Komuniti Madani initiative serves as a crucial platform to empower rural communities, enhance their understanding of current issues, and promote the dissemination of accurate information through official government channels.
Also present were Pakan District Information Officer, Thomas Mandanh, Pakan J-Kom Officer, Jenifer Empiang and several local community leaders. -UKASnews
