KUCHING: The Sarawak Ministry for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) continues to strengthen collaboration with the relevant authorities to boost sustainable teacher supply in the state.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said that collaboration is ongoing with the Ministry of Education (MOE), Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Pendidikan (SPP), Sarawak Education Department (JPNS), and teacher training institutions in Sarawak.

“These partnerships are essential to ensure a steady and strategic supply of trained teachers across the state.

“My ministry also supports continuous professional development programmes, especially for non-option teachers in critical subjects such as Science, Mathematics, and English to ensure teachers are well-equipped to meet the needs of all students, including those in rural areas,” he explained.

He said this when answering a question from Kota Sentosa Assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin in the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Thursday.

Additionally, Datuk Francis shared that MEITD alongside MOE, SPP and JPNS had carried out a special recruitment exercise under the Contract of Service scheme to hire both education and non-education graduates as part of efforts made to address teacher shortages.

He added that continuous efforts were also underway to improve school facilities under the upgrading and rebuilding of dilapidated schools throughout Sarawak. -UKASnews
