LUNDU: The 2025 Sarawak-Level Children Protection Advocacy Programme: ‘Kasih Kanak-Kanak’ is more than just an advocacy initiative, it reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to ensure children in this country enjoy their fundamental rights.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said these include the right to live in a safe environment, grow up healthily, and be heard by those around them.
“This Children Protection Advocacy Programme was initiated in 2024 and, to date, has involved 25 schools across Sarawak with over 5,500 participants.
"This year, it has been expanded to 30 Children Activity Centres (PAKK) throughout the country, showing the government's determination to bring the message of child protection to the grassroots,” she said.
She said this during her speech at the launch of the programme at the Mahligai Gading Multipurpose Hall, here on Monday.
The Member of Parliament for Santubong also expressed concern over the increase in cases of child abuse and neglect which often go viral on social media.
She stressed that society cannot remain silent when faced with such situations.
“Children’s safety is my Ministry’s top priority, and we all share the responsibility of protecting them from any form of threat or harm,” she added.
The programme is organised by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department and is part of a multi-agency initiative to ensure the continued protection and well-being of children. -UKASnews
