Batang Rajang Bridge Rebranded as Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang Bin Tuanku Othman Bridge

SARIKEI: Batang Rajang Bridge is now officially known as Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang Bin Tuanku Othman Bridge in conjunction with its inauguration ceremony held on Saturday.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the rebranding of the bridge is in appreciation of the services and legacy of the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang as a great statesman who contributed a lot to the development of Sarawak.

“With great pleasure, I announce that Batang Rajang Bridge is now named as Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang Bin Tuanku Othman Bridge, in memory of his great services to Sarawak,” he said during his speech at the inauguration ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony of the bridge was officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah added that the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang is remembered for his contributions to the development of the central region of Sarawak as well as his role in strengthening Sarawak's economic foundation.

"As a native of Sarawak, his leadership legacy remains etched in the history of this state. The renaming of this bridge is a tribute to his struggle in the field of politics and state development," he added.

The late Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang once held the position of the second Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak from 1969 to 1977.

Also present were Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, Deputy Sarawak Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, Datu Chiew Chee Yau, Director of the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Dr Cassidy Morris; heads of departments and other invited guests. –UKASnews
