KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) in collaboration with the Betong Division Resident’s Office will be hosting the Gawai Dayak Open House 2025 on 7 June at Rumah Veriland, Engkeranji, Layar, in Betong.
The STF Gawai Dayak Open House 2025 returns for its third edition, celebrating cultural unity and promoting rural tourism with support from the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) and the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED).
According to a statement, the event will take place from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., featuring traditional music and dance, cultural exhibitions, storytelling, and hands-on workshops on Dayak customs.
“Visitors can enjoy local food, browse a handicraft bazaar, and experience the special Gawai-Kaamatan Concert, a unique collaboration between the Dayak and Kadazan-Dusun communities.
“This year also introduces glamping options for those who wish to stay overnight and enjoy the beautiful surroundings with a touch of comfort and Dayak Hospitality,” the statement said on Wednesday.
STF President, Audry Wan Ullok said this year’s Gawai Dayak Open House is not just a celebration of heritage, but also a reflection of innovation in rural tourism.
“We’re proud to introduce glamping and the Gawai-Kaamatan Concert as new features to attract more visitors, especially among youth and cultural enthusiasts.
“Everyone is warmly welcome to join the STF Gawai Dayak Open House 2025, a free public event celebrating heritage, harmony, and hospitality.
“Entry to the open house is free, giving all visitors the chance to enjoy cultural performances, traditional food, and a vibrant handicraft bazaar,” she said.
