KAPIT: The development of a new nine-storey hotel is expected to reshape the landscape and tourism appeal of Kapit upon its completion.

To assess its implementation, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki conducted an official working visit to the proposed project site on Tuesday.

Also present during the visit on Tuesday were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Native Laws and Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Pelagus Assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Katibas Assemblyman, Lidam Assan, Baleh Assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Kapit Division Resident, Elvis Didit, as well as heads of departments.

The visit to the site, located at the former GiatMARA Kapit premises near Lily Pond, was organised by Borneo Development Corporation (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. in collaboration with a consulting firm Jurubina Unireka.

The new hotel project features a design inspired by local culture and heritage, with the aim of harmoniously blending into the natural surroundings along the southern bank of the Rajang River.

Its design highlights concepts of sustainability and tranquillity while enhancing the iconic and naturally scenic Lily Pond area.

Cultural elements such as traditional motifs, patterns, and colours will be incorporated into both the exterior and interior design of the building.

This includes heritage textile features such as pua kumbu and ngepan Batang Rajang, making the hotel not only a modern lodging facility but also an authentic cultural experience centre.

The hotel is expected to boost the local tourism and economic sectors and serve as a new landmark positioning Kapit as a unique travel destination in Sarawak. -UKASnews
