SIBU: Strategic investments in infrastructure, green technology and digital innovation are expected to support Sarawak's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of more than 5 per cent this year.
This confidence was expressed by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg who said the Sarawak Government is also committed to developing the state by allocating RM15.8 billion to this effort in the development budget.
"I expect Sarawak's GDP to grow by more than 5 per cent in 2025, supported by strategic investments in infrastructure, green technology and digital innovation.
"The state's development allocation of RM15.8 billion reflects our commitment to improving public services, ensuring equitable progress, and ensuring long-term prosperity," he said.
He said this in his speech delivered by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian during the Launching Ceremony of the New Facade and Interior Renovation of Menara Rimbunan Hijau (RH), here on Tuesday.
He also emphasised the state government's commitment to making Sarawak an ASEAN Green Energy Powerhouse by 2035.
"We aim to generate up to 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2035 through hydroelectric power, floating solar farms and hydrogen production.
"The transition to a green economy is not only an environmental necessity but also a strategic opportunity. RH’s initiative reflects the values of sustainability that we stand for," he added.
The Sarawak Premier also shared his experiences during his recent visit to the United Kingdom which strengthened his confidence in Sarawak's potential as a global player in green energy, the digital economy and sustainable development.
"We have interacted with experts in green hydrogen technology and sustainable urban planning, and I am optimistic about future collaborations that will benefit both the public and private sectors," he said.
Commenting on RH, he said the company has been a mainstay in stimulating Sarawak’s economy for a long time.
He said the efforts and vision of its founders and the dedication of its employees have helped establish as RH an entity that not only builds successful businesses, but also provides job opportunities and builds a future for many Malaysians.
