KUCHING: An official document detailing the agreement between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government on oil and gas matters will be announced in the near future.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the document will provide clarification on the outcome of a strategic meeting with Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 9 May.
According to him, the document will cover three key points that were mutually agreed upon.
“First, the Federal Government recognises both Federal and State legal provisions.
“Second, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) will be recognised as the sole gas aggregator in Sarawak.
“Third, the document will also include commercial agreements involving Sarawak’s increased stake in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating the International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), on Tuesday.
Previously, the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement on 9 May announced that the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government had reached an agreement to resolve matters relating to PETRONAS and PETROS through negotiations.
The meeting was also attended by senior leadership from PETRONAS and PETROS at Perdana Putra, Putrajaya.
Both parties agreed to finalise the fundamental principles previously agreed upon as a means to facilitate negotiations between PETRONAS and PETROS. -UKASnews
