SIBU: The Rimbunan Hijau Group celebrated its 50th anniversary in a grand event held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang, here on Monday.

The event, themed ‘A Night Of Gratitude And Celebration’, was also attended by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri who represented Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

In his text of speech read by Dato Sri Nancy, the Deputy Prime Minister commended the Rimbunan Hijau Group for its extraordinary resilience and excellence over the past 50 years.

“From humble beginnings in Sibu, it has now become an international-class company," he said.

Founded on 13 May 1975 by Tan Sri Sir Tiong Hiew King together with his siblings, the Rimbunan Hijau Group has grown rapidly in various industries and has had a major impact on the economic development of Sarawak, Malaysia, and several other countries.

Dato Sri Fadillah also expressed confidence in the group’s leadership led by Datuk Tiong Thai King, stating that the future of the group remains bright and promising.

“Building and sustaining success in the business world is no easy feat. Rimbunan Hijau Group has proven that with strong leadership and a committed team, challenges across different eras and economic landscapes can be overcome,” he added.

The evening was further enlivened with performances by renowned local artist Shila Amzah, traditional lion and dragon dances, and a creative showcase by the company’s employees.

The highlight of the event was a 330-drone light show, Sibu’s first ever, followed by a 13-minute synchronised fireworks display choreographed by three local youths.

The performance is said to have potential for entry into the Malaysia Book of Records.

“Tonight is not only about celebrating corporate achievements, but also showcases the spirit of togetherness, creativity, and the pride of local talent,” Dato Sri Fadillah added.

Meanwhile in his welcoming speech, Managing Director of Rimbunan Hijau, Datuk Tiong Thai King emphasised that the event was not only a celebration of 50 years of corporate success, but also a gesture of appreciation to every individual in Sibu for the unwavering support of the local community and the dedication of every employee.

According to him, local economic development and business growth would not have been possible without political stability.
“We are deeply grateful that our country, especially in Sarawak, has long enjoyed continuous stability.

“Despite the diversity of ethnic backgrounds, harmony and shared prosperity have been preserved. This is a rare and remarkable achievement not easily found elsewhere.

"On behalf of the Rimbunan Hijau Group, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for his visionary leadership.
