KUCHING: The Sarawak State Basic Race Marshal Course 2025 wrapped up successfully on Sunday at the Temporary Circuit of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), located at the State Stadium car park in Petra Jaya.
The course was a joint effort between the Sarawak Motorsports Association (SMA), the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), and the Sarawak Department of Youth and Sports (JBS).
Officiating the closing ceremony, SMA President Dato' Ahmad Ibrahim praised the 35 participants from Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri for their discipline and dedication during the intensive two-day training session.
“This course is not just about learning procedures—it’s about building a culture of safety and professionalism in motorsports. Race marshals are the unsung heroes of every event. They are the eyes and ears of race organisers, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of all proceedings,” said Dato' Ahmad during his speech on Sunday.
He noted that participants who passed the course would be issued a Race Marshal Licence by MAM and a Certificate of Recognition by JBS.
Those who did not meet the requirements will receive a Certificate of Attendance and are encouraged to return for future sessions.
The programme included training modules on the core responsibilities of a race marshal, flag signalling protocols, emergency communication tools, and live circuit simulations based on real race-day scenarios.
Dato' Ahmad also reaffirmed SMA’s commitment to strengthening Sarawak’s motorsports ecosystem by nurturing a skilled and dependable team of local race marshals.
He further echoed the Sarawak Premier’s announcement in 2024 regarding the upcoming permanent race circuit in Gedong, calling it a pivotal step forward for the state’s motorsports development and employment landscape.
Also in attendance were Fatimah Abdul Rahman representing the Director of the Sarawak Youth and Sports Department, Race Manager and MAM Exco member Bronnie Marshall, as well as course facilitators Rosland Kamaruddin and M. Ravin.
Participants from this year’s programme are expected to support several major upcoming events, including the Borneo Star Drift Battle 2025 and the Borneo Extreme Motocross Challenge 2025, with potential involvement in future drag races, go-kart races, and 4x4 challenges. -UKASnews
