DUBAI: Sarawak’s para badminton athletes, Ashley Irenaeus Jeck and Nurzammietul Syafiqqah Mohamad Zamberi, marked a significant milestone for the state as they made their international debut representing the Malaysian national team at the prestigious 6th Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International 2025.
The tournament, held from 9 to 11 May in Dubai, was organised by the Dubai Club for People of Determination and is part of the globally recognised Badminton World Federation (BWF) Para Badminton International series.
The event brought together elite para athletes from around the world in a celebration of sporting excellence, resilience, and inclusivity.
Ashley and Nurzammietul Syafiqqah’s participation highlights the growing strength and potential of Sarawak’s para sports development programme.
The duo joined 12 other Malaysian para badminton athletes under the guidance of three national coaches in this highly competitive event.
Their participation not only represents personal and athletic achievement but also reflects Sarawak’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through inclusive sports development and structured opportunities at the national and international levels.
The Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development reiterated its full support for inclusive programmes that promote empowerment and equal access, acknowledging para athletes as role models and pioneers of change.
It Minister, Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah capturing her support and vision for the Sarawak para athletes, said the success of Sarawak’s para athletes to the international stage is a reflection of their resilience, discipline and unwavering spirit.
"We are immensely proud to see our badminton para athletes strong determination in representing Malaysia at the 6th Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International 2025," she said.
