MIRI: Bilateral relations between Miri and Brunei Darussalam continue to be strengthened through an economic collaboration session organised by the Miri City Council (MBM) on Thursday.

Held at the Miri City Hall, the session called the Brunei-Miri Economic Collaboration Session brought together 30 delegations from Brunei along with local leaders, industry members and stakeholders.

The session began with a welcome speech by the Mayor of Miri City and Pujut Assemblyman, Adam Yii Siew Sang.

In his speech, he stressed the importance of strengthening the close relationship that already exists between Miri and Brunei, especially in strategic sectors such as tourism, energy, services and education.

“This courtesy visit not only reflects the geographical proximity we share, but also demonstrates our shared desire to strengthen economic cooperation, forge joint ventures and explore new opportunities that can benefit both parties,” he said.

This dialogue session also served as an important platform for exchanging ideas and identifying key sectors with potential to be explored together towards sustainable development and regional prosperity.

Among the main focuses of the discussion was investment opportunities in the Kenyalang Smart City project, an integrated smart city initiative being developed near Curtin University Malaysia.

This project is expected to be a catalyst for Miri's economic transformation and open up vast opportunities for Bruneian investors in areas such as smart infrastructure, green energy, medical tourism and education.

The session was also followed by a site visit to the project location and a lunch with industry leaders and business representatives from both sides.

MBM also expressed hope that this session will produce a concrete action plan towards establishing more structured, high-impact cross-border economic cooperation that will provide long-term benefits to the people in both regions.

Also present was the Deputy Mayor of Miri City, Councillor Ariffin Mohamad. -UKASnews
