MIRI: An important step towards sustainable development and community empowerment in Sarawak was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) and Curtin University Malaysia.
The ceremony took place at 3 p.m. at The Council Room, Heron Building 1, Curtin University Malaysia, Miri, on Thursday.
Among the guests of honour present were RECODA Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, RECODA Corporate Services Division Director, Dr. Hadysyam Junaidi, Curtin Malaysia Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive, Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen and Curtin Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Sharon Chong Pau Fang.
In his welcoming speech, Professor Vincent Lee described this MoU as the beginning of a meaningful collaboration based on a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in Sarawak, particularly in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) area.
He also highlighted the potential for collaboration in the fields of research, community development, innovation and knowledge transfer.
Datuk Ismawi in his speech emphasised that this strategic collaboration is important to achieve Sarawak's aspiration to become a high-income state by 2030, in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
He also shared the success of various initiatives such as EMPLOY@SCORE and COMMUNITY@SCORE which have had a positive impact on the rural community.
The ceremony continued with the signing and exchange of MoU documents, followed by a photo session and exchange of souvenirs. -UKASnews
