KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof stressed that negotiations between the Sarawak and Federal Governments, including on issues related to Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), are still ongoing with the involvement of various stakeholders.

Commenting on a statement by Senior Counsel, Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdullah, who suggested that the Attorney General and the State Attorney General be of similar opinion on the issue of claims between the two governments, Dato Sri Fadillah stressed that technical discussions have been and are taking place through various official channels.

“Actually, all these negotiations involve various parties, including myself as the chairman of the technical committee represented by representatives of the state government, the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Sarawak Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said when met after officiating the Borneo 2025 Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Week here, on Monday.

According to him, there are issues that require resolution through the courts, but the current approach is to find a win-win solution.

“These negotiations are not only at the level of the Prime Minister and Sarawak Premier, but also involve the Attorney General of Sarawak, the Federation, and related companies such as Petronas and Petros,” he added.

Dato' Sri Fadillah also stressed that the negotiations were conducted within the framework of the Constitution and existing legal regulations, and explained that apart from issues related to oil and gas, many other matters were also discussed and are being resolved in stages. -UKASnews
