LONDON: The 'Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2025 – United Kingdom Edition', held for the first time beyond Malaysian borders, has ignited a strong sense of pride and identity among some 230 Sarawakian students currently pursuing their studies in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

More than just a gathering of the Sarawakian diaspora, the historic event served as a vital platform for students abroad to gain first-hand insight into the state’s development direction under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

According to Amirruddin Ahmat, Director of 'Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2025 UK Edition', the event marked a significant milestone in the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to engage with Sarawakians overseas—particularly among students based in the UK, France, and Germany.

Amirruddin, a postgraduate student in Subsurface Energy Engineering at the University of Manchester, described the event as a “bridge” that connects Sarawakian students abroad with the state’s top leadership.

“I previously attended 'Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak' in Kuala Lumpur, but many students here in the UK had never experienced it. That’s why we wanted to bring the spirit of 'Lan Berambeh' to the UK—so we could meet the Premier of Sarawak and senior state leaders,” he said.

For Mohammad Aniq Ashwin Abuzar, a law student at the University of the West of England Bristol, the UK edition of the programme held great significance in amplifying the voices of Sarawakian students abroad.

“Through this programme, I truly feel that our voices are being heard. It also revealed meaningful avenues for us, as Sarawakians abroad, to contribute back to our home state. There’s a genuine sense of connection today,” he shared.

Meanwhile, Amir Dzakwan, a Bachelor’s degree student in Computing, IT and Business Management at the University of Surrey, noted that exposure to Sarawak’s current development efforts underlined the state government’s seriousness in involving the younger diaspora in its long-term plans.

“I hope this programme helps us better understand the many initiatives being implemented by the Sarawak Government.

“We may be far away, but that doesn’t mean we’re always aware of what’s happening back home. Learning about these developments inspires us and becomes a springboard for us to eventually give back to our homeland,” he added. -UKASnews
