PADAWAN: The Sarawak Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing basic infrastructure in rural areas through the launch of the “Acute System” water supply project in Puncak Borneo, Padawan.

The groundbreaking and official handover ceremony for the project was officiated by Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, at the project site along Jalan Bengoh Danu, followed by a working visit to the Bengoh Dam on Wednesday.

The RM12.6 million project is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) and the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

Expected to be completed by December 2025, the project will benefit more than 5,800 households frequently affected by low water pressure and inconsistent supply.

This interim measure includes the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of six million litres per day, installation of new pipelines, upgrading of the water distribution system, and the building of a raw water intake point.

Although temporary, the Acute System is projected to meet local water demands for the next three years while awaiting the implementation of a full-scale project under the Federal Government.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Transport Sarawak and Mambong Assemblyman, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament, Datuk Willie Mongin, MUT Permanent Secretary, Datu Jafri Lias and Director of the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department, Ir. Ts. Awg. Mohammad Fadilah Awg Redzuan. -UKASnews
