LONDON: The Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, arrived in London on Tuesday for a four-day official working visit, accompanied by a delegation from the Sarawak Government.
He was received at 5.30 pm local time by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Dato’ Zakri Jaafar.
Accompanying the Sarawak Premier were the Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Attorney General, Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.
On Wednesday, the Premier is scheduled to visit Cambridge University Press and Assessment, a non-school institution under the University of Cambridge, which offers a wide range of products and services in education, learning, research, and qualifications assessment.
Among its offerings are various assessment services, particularly qualification testing at the school and tertiary education levels, as well as standardised testing models aligned with Sarawak’s educational assessment initiatives.
On 1 May, the Premier will lead a delegation to the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to attend a roundtable session focused on sustainability.
The visit will also include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between LSE and the Government of Sarawak.
Later that afternoon, he is expected to meet with officials from the International Hydropower Association and the Global Renewables Alliance to strengthen collaborations in hydropower—aligning with Sarawak’s role as a leading hydropower producer in the ASEAN region.
On 2 May, the Premier will deliver the keynote address at the Sarawak Connects in London: Sarawak's Pathway to Sustainable Growth & Global Market Expansion forum.
The initiative is a direct engagement with targeted investors and will provide the latest updates on investment opportunities and Sarawak’s business environment to both UK-based and international investors.
The visit will conclude on 3 May with the Premier attending the 'Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak' programme, an engagement event with Sarawakian students residing in the United Kingdom.
The event aims to provide Sarawakians abroad with a deeper understanding of the state government's policies and development approaches, especially in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
It also serves as a platform for Sarawakian students to engage directly with the Premier during a Townhall session, where they may share their views and ideas with the state leadership. -UKASnews
