KUCHING: The Sarawak Government remains steadfast in taking firm measures to address the growing challenge of cyber threats, which pose a risk to technological harmony and security across the state.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said the government had already set clear guidelines through the National Artificial Intelligence Governance and Ethics Framework (AIGE) to ensure the safe and regulated use of technology.

"As the landscape continues to evolve rapidly, we must move in tandem with these developments.

"Relevant agencies are already taking appropriate steps to counter challenges that could disrupt the harmony brought about by technological advancements," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the Sarawak-level Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Microsoft AI Tech: Skills For An AI-Enabled Economy Programme at the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) on Sunday.

Dato Sri Julaihi also stressed the importance of strict enforcement by the relevant agencies to ensure there is no compromise when dealing with cyber attacks.

He emphasised that effective enforcement measures are crucial to deter any parties intending to launch cyber assaults in the future.

"Enforcement must not only be at the state level but also coordinated with the Federal Government.

"We must act decisively and refuse to compromise when it comes to cyber threats.

"Strict adherence to established procedures must be upheld at all times," he said.

He further highlighted that initiatives like the MCMC Microsoft AI Teach programme align well with the aspirations outlined in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, particularly in building quality human capital, strengthening digital inclusivity, and bridging the technological gap between urban and rural areas.

Such programmes, he noted, provide an essential platform to equip Sarawakians with the skills and resilience needed to seize opportunities and tackle challenges in an increasingly digital world.

Also present were Chief Executive Officer of CENTEXS, Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Dato Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman, MCMC Kuching Branch Director, Ts Scott Kueh Sui Yek, Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre, Prof Dr Patrick Then, Deputy General Manager of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Ts Dr Suhaila Jaffar, Deputy Director of the Sarawak Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), Farinah Japar, Chief Executive Officer of Biji-Biji Initiative, Rashvin Pal Singh, along with other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
