MUKAH: The Kaul Mukah festival is not just an event to respect the customs of the Melanau community, but also a platform for the local community to improve their economic status.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib said that the organisation of sales stalls in conjunction with Kaul Mukah opens up opportunities for local entrepreneurs to introduce their products.
“Therefore, the local community should make the most of this opportunity.
“We hope that more visitors from outside the Mukah area will come to this Kaul Festival,” she said.
She said this while speaking at the ‘Keman’ Kaul Mukah 2025 Ceremony held at Tapak Kaul, Pantai Kala Dana, here, on Sunday.
More specially, the ‘Keman’ Kaul which means the Kaul Dinner this year was graced by the presence of the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi who attended to ‘berambeh’ with the community in Mukah.
Further commenting, Dato Hanifah who is also the Member of Parliament for Mukah explained that the significance of this ceremony is to form a new platform to strengthen harmony and instill a spirit of unity between leaders and the people.
“The ‘Keman’ Kaul Ceremony this morning was held as a sign of appreciation and to celebrate the close relationship between leaders and the people, especially the community in Mukah Division,” she said.
Also present were Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai Deputy Minister of Town Planning, Land Administration and Environment Sarawak, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Tellian Assemblyman , Royston Valentine, Igan Member of Parliament, Ahmad Johnie Zawawi and Mukah Division Resident, Datu Kueh Lei Poh. -UKASnews
