KUCHING: Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) partnered with Cahya Mata Sarawak in strengthening both parties’ commitment towards restoration effort through tree planting programme at Sabal Forest Reserve today.
Through this joint initiatives, 2,500 saplings of high-value indigenous species such as belian, meranti, kapur and engkabang has been planted with participation of 250 representatives from FDS, Cahya Mata, lecturers and students from I-CATS as well as local communities.
This planting activities by Cahya Mata was run in correspond to company’s Inaugural Arbor Day which is a significant occasion that underscores their commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement which also support Greening Sarawak Campaign led by FDS.
FDS’s Deputy Director of Forests, Semilan Ripot in his speech said, “While today’s tree planting event contributed to the cumulative number of trees planted in Sarawak under 'Greening Malaysia Agenda Through 100 million Tree Planting Campaign' (2021-2025); which has surpassed 35 million targets a year ahead, the more important reason of this effort is it aligned with our attempts to combat climate change that has emerged as one of the biggest problems confronting humanity today”.
FDS was represented by Deputy Director of Forests Semilan Ripot, while Cahya Mata Sarawak represented by Head of Road Maintenance Division Raymond Ugay.-UKASnews
