IGAN: The Ministry of Works marked the early completion of an additional construction project at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Agama Igan, delivering 17 new teachers’ quarters and supporting infrastructure a full year before its original deadline.
Minister of Works, Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi officiated the Handing-Over Ceremony on Friday, emphasising the government’s commitment to providing “complete and conducive residential facilities” for educators.
“These quarters have been designed to ensure comfortable and safe living spaces for our teaching staff,” he said.
Situated on a 13.554-hectare site, the scheme comprises 17 Class-F residential units alongside essential utilities including rainwater catchment tanks, multi-level water reservoirs and suction tanks, as well as full electrical, ICT and mechanical service installations.
External works encompass both open and covered parking areas, extensive concrete pavements, an upgraded drainage network, and comprehensive water reticulation and sewerage systems.
Awarded in 2023 to the Public Works Department (JKR) of Malaysia’s Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) on a design-and-build contract valued at RM16.39 million, the project exemplifies efficient public-sector delivery.
“This achievement reflects exemplary collaboration between JKR Malaysia and our contractor,” Dato’ Sri Alexander remarked. “Their performance sets a benchmark for future projects.”
He also urged the contractor to maintain rigorous standards throughout the defect liability period, noting that JKR Malaysia will closely monitor post-handover processes to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
