MUKAH: It is estimated that 800 athletes and officials from all over the country will camp in Mukah for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) and Para SUKMA Sarawak 2024.

The Sarawak Women, Early Childhood and Community Welfare Development Minister, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said, three types of sports namely football, netball and judo will be contested in Mukah which promises 20 medals.

According to her, in terms of providing facilities and venues for these three types of sports, due attention has been given.

"In terms of skills and fighting spirit, they must also focus.

"We have sent our athletes not only to give exposure at the state level, but also abroad to give exposure and experience in preparation for the 21st SUKMA Games and Para SUKMA," she said.

She said this when met by reporters after officiating the Sarawak SUKMA XXI Baton Relay 2024 Mukah Division Stage at Pehin Setiaraja Mukah Square on Sunday.

Dato Sri Fatimah added that Sarawak has a very clear mission and a high commitment to become the champion of SUKMA and Para SUKMA for this edition.

"The last time Sarawak became champions was 30 years ago in 1994 for SUKMA, but we have been champions year after year for the 13th time but at the Para SUKMA Games in Kuala Lumpur two years ago we lost to Sabah.

"For the first time we have seen another state become the champion in Para SUKMA," he said.

Also present were the Deputy State Secretary (Operation) and the Chief Executive Officer of the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat, Datu Hii Chang Kee, Balingian Assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, Mukah Division Resident, Kueh Lei Poh, Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Fridah Osman Adenan, KPWK Permanent Secretary, Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Acting Mukah District Officer, Peleadzman Ahip and other guests.-UKASnews
