MIRI: Sarawak is set to witness a major leap in smart city development and digital economic growth through the implementation of the Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) Project in Miri which is expected to be a major catalyst for the transformation of the state's urban landscape and socio-economics.

The high-profile project was sealed on Wednesday through the signing of an investment agreement between Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, China Energy Engineering Group Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (CEEC-GXED) and several major companies from Shandong, China.

The ceremony was held at the Miri City Hall and witnessed by Miri City Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang.

According to the organiser, KSC will bring a new approach to urban development based on smart technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G connectivity in line with the principles of sustainability and low-carbon goals.

“This project will not only drive the growth of the digital economy and green technology in Sarawak, but will also open thousands of high-value job opportunities for local workers,” said a representative of the organiser.

The development of Kenyalang Smart City also involves investments in international-class facilities including a convention centre, performing arts center and cultural heritage museum, making it a new landmark for Miri as well as attracting investors and tourists from home and abroad.

The high-ranking delegation from China who attended included the Chairmen of giant companies such as Shandong Yutong Road and Bridge Group, Shandong Tianhua Industrial Group, Ublok New Materials Co and Beijing Shenghui Construction Engineering Co.

After the signing ceremony, the delegation was taken to visit the KSC project site to review the potential and readiness of the development area ahead of the next implementation phase.

This project is part of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s position as a leader in smart city development and the digital economy in the region.-UKASnews
