KUCHING: Sarawak’s transition towards digitalisation is a catalyst in driving the region towards a dynamic transformation in the future.
Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Sarawak Director, Datu Lester Matthew said this transition will not only create new economic opportunities but also increase productivity and strengthen the region’s long-term resilience.
“Supporting this effort, the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 (SDB 2030) provides a roadmap to realise the vision through digitalisation across sectors, improving service delivery and creating more inclusive and future-proof economic opportunities.
“Our commitment to digital transformation through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and SDB 2030 is not just a policy direction but a strategic move that places us at the forefront of global change while addressing local challenges head-on.
“Around the world, we can see how countries that have embraced digitalisation are emerging as leaders in resilience, innovation and competitiveness. So, the message is clear — a digital economy is not an option,” he said.
He said this when delivering his keynote address at the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Sarawak Surveyors’ Congress 2025 here on Wednesday.
Elaborating further, he said that the transition to a digital-based economy would open a new chapter in both the world of employment and business.
“This means thousands of high-value jobs will be created, new investments in innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), smart technology and positioning Sarawak as a serious digital competitor in the Asian region.
“By focusing on digital innovation, talent development and infrastructure expansion, we are not only building a stronger economy but also ensuring global sustainability and ensuring that our people are prepared for the future,” he added. -UKASnews
