KUCHING: Sarawak needs to advocate for education autonomy to ensure its people are educated beyond 2030.

Tanjong Datu Assemblyman, Azizul Annuar Adenan emphasised that Sarawak should enhance relevant regulations or push for amendment of the Education Act to ensure that educational policies affecting Sarawak are not subject to the whims of future education ministers.

"To a certain extent, I agree that our syllabus is comprehensive. However, the entire education ecosystem needs adjustments, if not a complete overhaul, to align with our counterparts.

"Let us have our own autonomy in deciding our curriculum," he said.

He said this while debating the Motion of Appreciation for the Address by the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Session on Friday.

Azizul added that the journey to autonomy should not be hazardous; instead, it should be smooth sailing, as repeatedly emphasised by the Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the implementation of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to the fullest is of the highest priority. -UKASnews
