KUCHING: Sarawak broadcasting station, TV Sarawak (TVS) received uplifting news as it is set to have its own dedicated building which is expected to be completed by 2027.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the building will be developed near the Baitul Makmur Building in Petra Jaya, here.
According to him, the completion timeline aligns with the hosting of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2027, enabling TVS to broadcast events to the participating countries, especially as Sarawak will serve as one of the co-hosts for the prestigious regional sporting event.
“We hope the new building will be completed by 2027 because we will be part of the host for the SEA Games 2027, and of course, TVS will be responsible for live coverage of events taking place in Sarawak.
“That’s why we want the building to be ready, complete with advanced studio facilities to enable live broadcasts to participating countries including Indonesia, Singapore, and other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),” he said.
He said this during the 2025 TVS Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.
The Sarawak Premier noted that the building’s location, near the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre, will also position TVS to host large-scale events such as concerts and cultural performances that showcase the state’s rich and diverse heritage.
This will, in turn, help spotlight and nurture local talents in the performing arts industry.
“The building will also be near the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre at the former Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) site, which is a state-of-the-art venue built to meet international performance standards.
“This is part of our investment to develop local youth talents who are enriched by the unique and diverse cultures of our multiracial society.
“It shows that our focus is not only on broadcasting as a business model, but also on becoming a platform to develop home-grown talents,” he added.
Meanwhile, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also congratulated TVS for successfully expanding its coverage to Peninsular Malaysia.
