MIRI: A medium-sized convention centre is set to be developed in the upcoming ‘Resort Township’ of Beraya, with full funding to be provided by the Sarawak Government, announced Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
The project is part of a comprehensive master plan for Beraya, which will encompass the development of an administrative centre, residential areas, an international school, commercial zones, hotels, and a marina to accommodate yachts and boats.
“I expect it will take at least 10 years for Beraya to fully evolve into a resort township, with incoming investments including a medium-sized convention centre that we will construct,” he said.
He added that the Sarawak Government will fund the convention centre, affordable housing for the B40 group, and the necessary infrastructure, while the remaining components of the township will be developed in collaboration with the private sector.
The Premier made the announcement during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering hosted by five branches of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Miri, held at a local hotel on Saturday.
Expanding on the vision, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari highlighted Beraya’s strategic location between Miri and Niah, describing it as an ideal catalyst for growth in the Subis region.
“This includes the areas of Lambir, Bekenu, and their surroundings, where the planned modernisation will attract investors and benefit the local community,” he said.
Also present at the event were Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Ministers of the Sarawak Cabinet, Deputy Minister of Health and Chairman of the Event Organising Committee, Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, as well as other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
