KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering education for Sarawakian students by assisting underprivileged individuals in pursuing higher education.
Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said Yayasan Sarawak wrote off between RM7 million and RM8 million in student loans last year for students at public institutions of higher learning.
“These loans were written off based on several factors, including academic excellence, student appeals, and in cases where students have passed away, in which their loans are automatically waived,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at his 2025 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House held at Dewan Hikmah, Petra Jaya, on Thursday.
Dato Fazzrudin emphasised that this initiative clearly reflects the Sarawak Government’s continuous efforts to ensure that students are not left behind in education, thereby creating greater opportunities for their future.
“We are confident that, through Yayasan Sarawak, many students have been supported and given the opportunity to further their studies,” he added.
Also present at the open house were Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and other guests. -UKASnews
