KOTA SAMARAHAN: The RM1,200 financial aid initiative for Sarawakian students studying at institutions of higher learning (IPT) across Malaysia will be launched soon.

Sarawak Premier’s Chief Political Secretary, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, stated that the aid would be distributed through the S Pay Global e-wallet application.

"I would like to encourage students to register with S Pay Global as the contribution will be channelled through this platform. Don’t wait until the last minute to register, as it could lead to congestion," he said when speaking to reporters after the Handover Ceremony for Food Bank and Student Affairs (HEP) Donations at Masjid Al-Qurawiyyin, UiTM Sarawak Branch, on Friday.

He added that the aid for students outside Sarawak would also be distributed through S Pay Global, given that the e-wallet is widely used across Malaysia.

Additionally, the Tupong Assemblyman urged students planning to return to their hometowns to take advantage of the initiatives provided by the Sarawak government.

"We are aware of our initiative, the Sarawak Graduates Return Initiative (IGPS), where the allocation can be used to ease the burden of purchasing flight tickets. However, students are only allowed to apply twice a year," he explained.

He also mentioned that applications for IGPS can be made through the Yayasan Sarawak app.

Meanwhile, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman presented a grant from the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, amounting to RM20,000 for the Food Bank and HEP Kitchen contributions.

This initiative by UiTM Sarawak Branch aims to assist underprivileged students by providing essential food supplies to support their well-being.

Also present at the event was the Rector of UiTM Sarawak Branch, Dr Firdaus Abdullah. -UKASnews
