SIBU: Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has disbursed an allocation of RM260,000 to help improve the comfort of patients and healthcare workers at Sibu Hospital.

The allocation was used to install 38 air conditioning units in five hospital wards, upgrade toilet facilities, and purchase several refrigerators for the daily needs of patients and medical staff.

“I was informed that the hospital’s central air conditioning system was damaged, causing the conditions in the wards to become hot and uncomfortable for patients and making it difficult for healthcare workers to carry out their duties,” he said after visiting the hospital on Saturday.

Following complaints and feedback from the public, the DudongAssemblyman took immediate action by instructing the Dudong Service Centre to expedite the installation of 36 air conditioning units in several wards.

Two additional units were also installed to ensure better airflow and a more comfortable atmosphere for everyone after his own visit.

Meanwhile, he also announced the upgrading of hospital toilets, including the upgrading of three squat toilets to sit-down toilets, as well as adding accessibility features for the elderly and patients with mobility issues.

In addition, several refrigerator units were also supplied to support the storage needs of food and medicines for patients and staff.

“Air conditioning, toilets, and refrigerators are among the most important basic needs, and we must do everything possible to improve these essential infrastructure and facilities.

“Patients have the right to receive treatment in a comfortable environment, and at the same time, providing a complete working environment will ease the workload of health staff, allowing them to fully focus on providing high-quality medical treatment,” he said.

He also called on the relevant authorities to be more proactive in the maintenance and improvement of health facilities in Sibu, to ensure that the people receive treatment in a conducive and safe environment.-UKASnews
