LAWAS: A total of 1,261 recipients consisting of the disabled, orphans, single mothers, and senior citizens in the Lawas District received donations in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1446H/2025M in a ceremony organised by the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Lawas Branch, on Saturday.

The ceremony, which took place at the Seri Malaysia Lawas Hotel, was officiated by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Also present were Lawas Member of Parliament, Dato Henry Sum Agong, Lawas Branch PERKIM Chairman, Dato Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud, and several other dignitaries.

In her speech, Dato Dayang Morliah expressed her appreciation to all parties who had contributed to the success of this program, including benefactors and corporate companies.

This year, among the main contributors are Empayar Setia Sdn Bhd, Tecktonic & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Energy Berhad, and Pertama Ferralloys Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah in his speech emphasised the importance of a culture of charity which should not only be practiced during the month of Ramadan but also be made a part of everyday life.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II also encouraged more parties, including youth, to get involved in charity work for the common benefit.

A total of 519 recipients attended the hall to receive donations directly from Datuk Amar Awang Tengah, his wife, and other contributors, while the remaining recipients will receive their contributions later.-UKASnews
