Sarawak Government Remains Committed To Developing Rural Infrastructure & Economy

MUKAH: The Sarawak Government remains committed to developing rural communities through various development initiatives and projects.

This comes after the Leaders' Meeting with the People held at Rh. Juki, Batu 15, Jalan Selangau/Mukah on Saturday witnessed the inauguration of the Concrete Fence and the Women's Bureau of the longhouse.

The ceremony was officiated by Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, who was also accompanied by Datin Sri Melia Gelen, Mukah District Officer Peleazman Ahip, and Dr Jawing Chunggat.

In his keynote speech, Dato Sri John Sikie emphasised the importance of the role of the leaders in ensuring the well-being and progress of their respective longhouses.

He called on community leaders to be fair, have integrity, and be responsible in conveying government information to the residents.

In addition, he also shared the progress of projects under the Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA), including the construction of Jalan Kebun to make it easier for residents to cultivate their land.

Oil palm and coffee plantation projects will also be implemented to increase the income of local residents.

In an effort to empower the education of Sarawakian children, the government has introduced financial assistance such as Special Assistance of RM1,200 for students of Higher Education Institutions (IPT) which is channeled through SPay Global.

In addition, the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) scheme of RM1,000 is also given to newborn babies as preparation for future education.

As a sign of support for the longhouse leadership, Dato Sri John Sikie announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM40,000 to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Rh. Juki and RM7,000 to the Women's Bureau of the longhouse.

The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of certificates of appreciation to two retired Tuai Rumahs, the presentation of New Appointment Certificates to two newly appointed Tuai Rumahs, and Extension Certificates to 14 other Tuai Rumahs.

The ceremony, which was attended by about 50 Tuai Rumahs and 500 residents of the area, not only strengthened the relationship between the government and the community, but also demonstrated the government's commitment to ensuring continued progress in rural areas.-UKASnews
