KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed in its efforts to build a comprehensive education ecosystem to benefit educators and students.
The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the Sarawak government has used its own funds to upgrade dilapidated schools throughout the state.
"The Sarawak government will spend its own funds to develop and upgrade 100 dilapidated schools in the state.
"Then, the Federal government will reimburse the cost spent. This will speed up the upgrading process because it reduces bureaucracy," he explained.
He said this during the Inauguration Ceremony of the SiPartners+ Malaysia Professional Association (SIPMa) National Level Conference 2024 here, on Tuesday.
The Sarawak Premier added that the state government also developed five international schools through its own funds.
"Apart from national schools, we also want Sarawak children to be fluent in other languages and learn the Cambridge syllabus.
"We want to give opportunities to all capable students in urban and rural areas so that in the future they can study at famous universities that specialise in new technology.
"Sarawak needs people who are skilled in new technologies such as hydrogen production and algae-based biofuel production in order to drive the field," he said.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak State Education Department Director, Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad, SIPMa Chairman, Salahuddin Hassan Jaba'ie, and Yayasan Sarawak Director, Mersal Abang Rosli. -UKASnews
