BARAM: The establishment of the SMK Bario Alumni Association is an important initiative in providing a platform for former students to contribute back to the school and local community.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala said the association's main objective is to strengthen education through close cooperation and enhance support between alumni and the school.

"I hope this association can function as a link to bridge the gap between the community, especially parents, so that they can work together to develop the school," he said when speaking at the inaugural General Meeting of the SMK Bario Alumni Association here on Monday.

The Mulu Assemblyman said this meeting provided a space for association members to discuss and plan various initiatives and programmes that could be implemented to improve the quality of education in the area.

He added, several suggestions and ideas were discussed, including efforts to provide assistance to students in need and introduce several programmes between alumni and students.

"With commitment and strong support from all parties, it is hoped that this association can play a significant role in strengthening education at SMK Bario and improving the well-being of the local community," he explained. -UKASnews
