MARUDI: The Carbon Project in the Marudi area is capable of providing great economic opportunities to local residents while continuing to maintain environmental sustainability in the area.
Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said that the peatland areas around Marudi-Poyut-Nibong to Kuala Tuyoh are also involved in this project.
"Recently, we were briefed on the Carbon Project in the Marudi-Baram Area carried out by SaraCarbon.
"For this project to be successful, strong support from the local people is essential," he said.
He said this while speaking at the 2025 Chinese New Year Dinner at the Civic Hall here on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Mulu Assemblyman (ADUN) called on residents to appreciate each other's cultural and ethnic diversity in the area.
He commented that there were many similarities between Sarawak's diverse communities that outweigh the differences.
"Apart from the Chinese New Year celebrations, we also celebrate Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, Wesak Day, and Christmas as opportunities to strengthen ties, enhance understanding, and foster unity among all races in our state.
"A society that lives in peace and harmony is definitely more developed than a society that is always fighting and arguing," he said.
Also present was Sarawak Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil. -UKASnews
