KUCHING: The state government is enhancing the Sarawak Investment Policy to ensure higher investment competitiveness that also benefits the people.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said in addition to the existing investment policies, efforts are underway to review priority sectors and the required technologies to attract high-quality investments to Sarawak.
“We want investments coming into Sarawak to use advanced technology and focus on environmental sustainability.
"In this regard, several sectors will be promoted, and certain policies will be improved,” he said at the Sarawak Ministry for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) 2025 Ministerial Address held here, on Wednesday.
According to the MINTRED Minister, the state government is also studying investment incentives that need to be highlighted to attract more domestic and foreign investments into the state.
The Sarawak Investment Policy is expected to be finalised this year and will be presented to the Cabinet before its implementation.
On entrepreneurship, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah said the Sarawak Government is also strengthening existing policies to support the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
"We are aware that the MSME sector is very important in generating economic growth and providing job opportunities.
"Therefore, we are enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem to ensure that local entrepreneurs are more competitive, especially in the digital era,” he said.
He also noted that the government is working with the World Bank and various stakeholders to strengthen the development of entrepreneurship in Sarawak.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah expressed confidence that this effort will have a positive impact on the state's investment and entrepreneurship sectors, in line with Sarawak's goal of becoming a high-income economy by 2030.
Also present at the event were MINTRED Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, MINTRED Advisor, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, MINTRED Permanent Secretary, Dzulkornain Masron, and Chief Executive Officer of InvestSarawak, Timothy Ong. -UKASnews
