KUCHING: The appearance of Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, at the N6 Metrocity Youth Night Market on Saturday night captured the attention of both visitors and vendors.

Arriving at around 8.45 p.m. on a high-powered motorcycle, the Premier was warmly welcomed by the crowd and notable guests present at the event.

He then took photographs at the entrance arch of the night market alongside dignitaries before strolling through the market stalls.

The Premier also visited the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) N6 Tupong Youth booth, which was offering assistance with Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) and S Pay Global services.

During his visit, he took the opportunity to purchase several items from various stalls and enjoyed a meal prepared by the organisers. He departed the event around 9.40 p.m.

Chairman of the N6 Metrocity Youth Night Market, Mohd Khairuzie Bolhassan, shared that the event had been highly anticipated since the establishment of the night market, which now houses 435 vendors.

He explained that Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari was particularly impressed by the large number of vendors and the consistent crowd of visitors.

"He was amazed by the number of traders here and even more so by the large turnout of visitors.

"When we first opened at the new site, we estimated around 5,000 visitors per day.

"On the final weekend before the school term began, we saw up to 8,000 visitors in a single day," he told reporters.

Despite the commencement of the school term, Khairuzie noted that the market, which operates from Wednesday to Saturday, still attracts more than 2,000 visitors weekly.

Also in attendance were Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, and CEO of Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) Busiai Seman. -UKASnews
